Ridgewood housing skews older and more architecturally varied than most Bergen towns. The Heights section has a real concentration of 1920s Tudor revival — steeply pitched, complex gables, sometimes original slate that's finally giving up. The flat side around the Village has Dutch Colonial gambrels with their distinctive double-pitch roof shape, and the newer construction along Doremus and Maple is mostly large colonial with hip-and-valley complexity.
The Village Building Department is the most thorough we deal with — they want submittals two weeks before crew arrival, photo documentation at three checkpoints, and a final inspection with the homeowner present. We file early on every Ridgewood job. The historic corridor along East Ridgewood Ave also has HPC review on visible roof changes.
